Five things you should know about an average day at camp

(1) You’ll find there’s no such thing as an average day

Every day is different. Although we have sessions that happen every day (one in the morning, one in the evening) and five meals (breakfast, elevenses, lunch, tea and dinner), things are always changing. One morning the discussions will be about faith and science, the next day about peer pressure. One afternoon, you’ll be on the beach, the next taking part in a drama workshop, the next playing football.

(2) You’ll have lots of choice

You choose what you want to spend your time doing. We recommend that all campers come to the morning and evening sessions. That’s where you get to see great drama, hear inspiring talks, get involved in activities and debate issues that matter to you. But what would you like to do with the rest of your time? Play dodge-ball? Join a hip-hop dance class? Go to the beach? Knit a plastic carrier bag? Write a drama? Kick a ball around with mates? Listen to music and chat with mates? Take part in giant skipping? Go for a walk? Play a board game or invent a new game of your own? Just hang out and enjoy the sun? Perform a song in our late-night café? It’s really up to you.

(3) You will laugh a lot

We believe that some people take themselves too seriously, which is why there’s lots of laughter at camp. You’ll play games in your morning meeting, hear jokes in the meal-time notices, see the leaders playing pranks on one another, laugh at sketches in the evening sessions and get to attend our very own daily comedy show – 5.15.

(4) You’ll have space to be yourself

No school, no bebo, no parents and no facebook. You’ll have time just to hang out and just be. No-one will pressure you to be a certain way, you can just relax and be yourself. Not sure who you are? At camp, you’ll have time to work it out.

(5) On the last day, you’ll hate leaving

We asked last year’s campers what they thought of camp. On the day they left the field, this is what some of them said,
